Cannabicyclohexanol (CCH): Description & Educational Information
Description
CCH is a synthetic cannabinoid designed to activate the same brain receptors as THC. It was first developed by Pfizer in 1979 and later became a major component of “Spice” herbal incense products. Unlike natural cannabis, its effects are less predictable and often stronger.
Pharmacology
CCH binds to cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2) in the central nervous system. The 1,1-dimethyloctyl version is several times more potent than its parent compound CP 47,497. Different enantiomers contribute to variable potency and effect profiles.
Effects
Users may experience cannabis-like effects, including relaxation and euphoria. However, effects are often more intense and unpredictable due to the synthetic nature and enantiomer mix.
Risks
Reported health risks include heart problems, seizures, psychosis, extreme agitation, and poisoning. Effects may vary widely depending on concentration and isomer composition.
Legal & Safety
CCH is considered a controlled substance or illegal in many countries due to its unpredictable potency and associated health risks. Use in unregulated herbal products carries significant safety concerns.
